METRO Board approves short list of University Corridor routes After a detailed briefing of the work developed by staff and consultants, METRO's Board of Directors approved a short list of routes for the University Corridor. With this approval METRO will be able to conduct more refined analyses of only six route alternatives (three on the eastern segment and three on the western segment) as opposed to more than 50. The more refined analyses will allow METRO to continue and finish the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS) process required to obtain federal funding for this project. A news release was issued about today's board action. Public Art Program finalists selected Forty artists (or 15 percent of those who applied) were selected earlier this month as finalists of the METRO Solutions Public Art Program. The criteria to evaluate the applicants included: 1. Artistic merit as evidenced by submitted images 2. Professional qualifications or record of artistic achievement as evidenced by resume, professional recognition, and community engagement 3. Record of successful completion of public art projects in exterior settings of similar scale and scope 4. Proven experience as part of a design team 5. Availability and willingness to meet regularly and work collaboratively with members of the Design-Build Team as required 6. Verification of submittal information by METRO Public Art staff Finalists are now invited to submit formal proposals. A District Selection Committee will then make the final selection of team artists. Team Artists will join the architectural design and engineering teams for each station or corridor. |
