Time: 6:00 - 9:00 pm
Location: Marbella's

Address:

6632 Harrisburg

As part of the Public Art Program, The Metropolitan Transit Authority of Harris County, Texas (METRO) invites members of the community along the East End Corridor to this workshop to bring ideas and pictures for a hands-on experience to help advance a visualized identity for neighborhoods within this corridor.

METRO will collaborate with the arts community and the neighborhoods along the new transit corridors during rapid transit expansion design and construction. This includes approximately ten miles of Light Rail Transit and 20 miles of Guided Rapid Transit connecting many diverse neighborhoods throughout the city of Houston.

The Public Art Program will be tailored to showcase the character of these neighborhoods and ultimately provide transit passengers and the surrounding neighborhoods with a rich variety of artwork.   METRO's objective is that art installations will respect and celebrate the culture, identity and heritage of the surrounding neighborhoods.  Along with the focus on local context is a community-based process for the selection of qualified artists to produce the artwork for stations, transit centers, and other facilities.

In addition to the this and other community visioning workshops, METRO is in the process of inviting artists to submit materials and an expert panel will review qualifications. A District Selection Committee will make the final selection of team artists who will then join the architectural design and engineering teams for each station or station corridor.

The workshop is being held in a wheelchair-accessible location.  Any persons requiring translation or other special communication accommodations should contact METRO Community Outreach at 713-739-4018 at least 72 hours prior to the meeting.  Every reasonable effort will be made to accommodate these needs.
