FEIS Documents in Progress for Two Corridors

The METRO Solutions wheels are turning.  Final Environmental Impact Statements (FEIS) are underway for the North Corridor as well as for the Southeast Corridor.

The FEIS addresses issues brought forth during the public comment period of the Draft Environmental Impact Statement (DEIS).  Another important characteristic of the FEIS is that it focuses on environmental impacts in the Locally Preferred Alignment (LPA).  As you may recall, the LPA for the North Corridor was selected on August 29 (see news release).  The LPA for the Southeast Corridor was selected on September 21 (see news release).

Drafts of the FEIS for each one of these corridors were submitted recently to the FTA.  While the FTA reviews and comments on each of the draft documents, conceptual and preliminary engineering work continues for both the North and the Southeast Corridors.  After FTA's comments and questions are received and addressed, METRO will circulate the FEIS for a 30-day public review period.

METRO is a very, very busy place these days

Ridership is booming. We're in the early stages of a $1.2 billion build- out of the region's mass transit system. We're adding buses, and new technologies and we're launching the Q Card - a quicker, simpler way to pay fares.

It's almost too much to talk about during one lunch, but that is what METRO's  President & CEO, Mr. Frank Wilson, will do when he speaks before the Greater Houston Partnership on October 25, 2006, noon to 1:30 p.m., at the Hilton Americas, 1600 Lamar St.

Mr. Wilson will change your perception of METRO and the vital role it plays in our community.  Sign up for the luncheon and leave with a better understanding of progress on METRO Solutions implementation and a preview of the new fare campaign.

After the luncheon, if your schedule permits, please join Mr. Wilson and METRO's staff to talk about several issues facing METRO: The selection of a Facility Provider for METRO Solutions Phase 2 Guided Rapid Transit lines; METRO's Small Business Program; bike racks on buses, and the new Q card.

You may never have boarded a METRO bus, but this lunch will be your opportunity to learn how we're making your commute - whether by bus or by car - so much better.
