OVERVIEW
Based on the attendance, this was a very successful meeting. Information boards were posted to facilitate individual questions and comments before and after the main presentation. METRO Community Outreach Coordinator Sylvia Medina gave welcoming remarks and introductions in English and Spanish. Barbara Koslov, the Principal Planner of the project team, presented the technical findings assisted by a slide show presentation. The microphone was shared with members of the audience for questions and comments, which were addressed by Ms. Koslov and Steve Beard, another project team member. The question/answer session was followed by one-on-one discussions with the attendees. In addition to Ms. Medina, Ms. Koslov and Mr. Beard, the one-on-one discussions were addressed by Bryan Pennington, METRO VP of Planning, Engineering and Construction; George Smalley, METRO VP of External Affairs; and other METRO staff members. Also present in the audience were Council Member Carol Alvarado, a staff member from Congressman Gene Green's office, and a staff member from Commissioner Sylvia García's office.
PURPOSE
This open house meeting was scheduled to inform the community of the progress made on the East End Corridor Study. All four alignment alternatives were analyzed with a standard set of criteria, which is summarized in a matrix shown in the slide show presentation. The audience was informed that a recommendation will be presented to the METRO Board of directors on Thursday, June 15, 2006.
COMMENTS/QUESTIONS FROM DISCUSSION PERIOD
- Concerns were raised against the use of the Hike and Bike Trail.
- Questions were raised about the possibility of extending the line beyond the Magnolia Transit Center.
